What is a Steelhead? A Steelhead is a sea run Rainbow
Trout, native to the lakes and streams of the western United States and introduced widely throughout the world. Rainbow trout are highly prized as game fish because they fight hard to free themselves, leaping high out of the water. Steelhead, the anadromous form of the rainbow trout, is also a prized game fish.
A Steelhead spends 2 to 4 years in the ocean before returning to
it's birthplace to spawn. As a result these fish endure many hardships along the way. As we all know the harder your life is the tougher you become. Steelhead could be one of the most challenging
and exciting fish to catch. It is not uncommon to have 20+ fish days.
We fish the Snake and Clearwater rivers. Snake river fish are smaller averaging 6 to 8 lbs. Clearwater fish are larger, 12 to 20 lbs, but fewer in numbers. Both rivers have their benefits and at times, one may be hot while the other is not. Reel Time will guide you to the hot spots!!
SALMON
King Salmon, or 'Up River Brights' as they are known, is the type of Salmon we fish for on the Hanford Reach section of the Columbia. September and October are the peak months. These fish can weigh up to 60 lbs and average around 25 lbs. Columbia Kings are a closer and less expensive trip very similar to Alaska. King Salmon, or Springers, are the type of Salmon we fish for on the Clearwater River in Idaho. The season begins in April and continues until June. Springers have a reputation for their hard fighting and sweet tasting meat. Combine that with the scenery of Idaho and you have the makings of a great trip!
